![]() And not only would it make sense to include Shadow as an Echo, but he’s something of a fan favorite. In fact, throughout series history, Shadow has indeed shared an identical move set to Sonic (see: Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Forces, etc.), and even in cases where he doesn’t, his abilities are clearly derived from Sonic’s (see: Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), Sonic Rivals, etc.). Shadow’s very first appearance in the Sonic series makes it very clear that his capabilities are very similar to Sonic’s. Shadow is simply the perfect pick for every reason. Tails is a bit more similar to Sonic than Knuckles, but he would need to incorporate his tails/flight into a lot of his moves to really make sense, and that unfortunately wouldn’t work if he were limited to Echo status. ![]() He only shared his up and down specials with Sonic, and even then they were vastly different from Sonic’s. Thing is, Knuckles was more than even a “Falco-clone” to Sonic at that point. ![]() Sure, Project M did a fantastic job making Knuckles a solid pick for Sonic mains who’d prefer a more offensive style, and it was a perfect example of how Knuckles should play in Smash. Neither Tails nor Knuckles would fit well as a Sonic Echo. Why not Tails or Knuckles? Surely they would be better suited for Smash Bros.? TL DR: 2 third party characters were revealed from the same third party franchise, so it seems third party franchises can have more than 1 character if they’re easy to make, AKA Echo fighters.Īlright, so you want a Sonic character in Smash. So ultimately, if Sonic is going to get another character added from his series, chances are it’s going to have to be an Echo fighter. Not everyone wants to focus on making sure they’re timing their attacks and measuring their distance for great reward with Marth-some just want to play it a tad more casually and balanced with Lucina. He wants to give the player the freedom to choose how they like to fight, and that’s a good thing. Sakurai made it shockingly clear that he wants to add quite a few Echoes to Smash, and for good reason: variety. I also believe the biggest reason Richter was picked was because he could be easily made as an Echo fighter, and I’d stand by that. This tells us a number of things, but the most notable points to take away from Richter’s existence in Smash means that a third party franchise can have more than one character. Yes, another inclusion to the Smash roster, but he’s an Echo of Simon, an otherwise simple inclusion. It’s a series favored by many, especially the developer team, so it only makes sense that they would include Simon in the game, and looking at the massive amount of Castlevania content in the game, it shouldn’t be surprising they didn’t stop at Simon.Įnter Richter. If the Direct is anything to go by, Castlevania is already shaping up to be one of Ultimate’s most beloved franchises, and rightfully so. Yes, one is an Echo of the other, but this is actually more evidence for Shadow’s inclusion, which I’ll cover later. ![]() ![]() The Nintendo Direct on Augfirst revealed two new fighters, who both happen to be from Castlevania. Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple days, the answer to this question should be a no-brainer, but I’ll explain if you’re still skeptical. Why would they add more than one character from a third-party franchise? ![]()
